Process

How it works.

Four stages, from the first message to the finished work in your hands.

  1. Inquiry

    What do I send?

You send the inquiry. I reply within two business days.

    You bring

    • What the business is, and what it does.
    • What you need help with.
    • Your name and your email.

    Side Note does

    • Reads what you send and replies.

    What happens next

    • Sending an inquiry starts a conversation, nothing more.
  2. Fit conversation

    Is it a fit?

If it looks like a fit, you and I have a short conversation about the business.

    You bring

    • The business, and what you want to fix or build.

    Side Note does

    • Talks through what you need and whether Side Note is the right fit. If something you already have can do the job, I’ll say so.

    What happens next

    • If it is a fit, you get a written quote.
    • If it isn’t a fit, you get a straight answer and, where possible, a pointer to someone who can help.
  3. Written quote

What will I know before I decide?

You get a written quote, with what’s included.

    You bring

    • Your questions, and your agreement when the quote is right.

    Side Note does

    • Writes down what’s included, what you supply, any outside costs, and the price.
    • Sets out the timeline and payment schedule.

    What happens next

    • Agreeing the quote is the step before any work begins.
  4. Agreed work

    What happens once I agree?

Work starts after the quote is agreed.

    You bring

    • The material the quote lists, such as your copy, photos or logo.
    • One person who can approve the work.

    Side Note does

    • The work in the quote, with the rounds of changes it names.
    • At the end, I show you what you are getting and how to use it.

    What happens next

    • A website launches on your domain, and Care can look after it afterward if you want that.
    • After launch, additional work is quoted by project.

What a written quote looks like

A quote lists what’s included, what you supply, what’s separate and the price. This example uses the Custom Website. It isn’t a real client’s quote; yours is written for your project.

What’s included
  • The agreed pages, designed for phones, tablets and desktops
  • Editing and organizing the material you supply
  • Set up so Google can find your pages, with no promises about where you rank
  • One contact form: you’re told about each message, the sender sees an on-screen confirmation, and junk is filtered out
  • A check that your Google listing is correct and links to the site
  • Two rounds of changes
  • Connecting your web address, checking everything at launch, and showing you how it all works
  • For 30 days after launch, anything that doesn’t work as agreed is fixed at no charge

What you supply
You supply the facts, draft text or bullet points, your logo and your photos.
What’s separate
Linking to a booking or ordering tool you already use is fine. Building online booking, ordering or a shop is separate work, quoted before anything is built.
Hosting
Included while your website payments are current or a Care plan is active. Otherwise the site moves to your own hosting account, with one free transfer, done with you.
Timeline

Payment schedule
Set out here, before any work begins.
Next step
Work starts after the quote is agreed.

Start with an inquiry.

A few sentences about your business is enough.
